Days of the Week & Months (Pronunciation & Usage)
Days of the Week & Months (Pronunciation & Usage)
It’s January 2nd, the second day of 2025. Let’s start the year off right by focusing on something fundamental: Days of the week and months of the year.
Knowing the days of the week and months is essential for any language learner, and especially important for communicating in business.
Let’s review:
- Days of the Week: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
- Pay attention to the pronunciation, especially the sounds of “th” and “day.”
- Months of the Year: January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December.
Notice how some months have irregular pronunciations.
- February: The “r” is often silent.
- August: The “gu” is pronounced like a “guh” sound, not as in “guest.”
- October: The “o” in “October” is pronounced with a short “ŏ” sound, similar to the sound in “hot.”
Now, let’s practice!
- Try saying the days of the week and months out loud.
- Create sentences using days of the week and months: For example, “The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 15th.”
- Think about how you use these words in your daily life. When do you schedule meetings? When do you plan your vacations?
Remember: Consistent practice is key!
