Common Business Greetings & Introductions

“Hello everyone, and welcome back to our daily business English lessons! Today, we’re focusing on essential business communication skills: common business greetings and introductions.

First impressions are crucial in the business world. A confident and professional greeting can set the tone for a successful interaction.

Let’s start with some common greetings:

  1. “Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, choose the appropriate one depending on the time of day and then add the person’s name.

For example, Good afternoon, Mr Smith. Good morning, Stephen.

  1. “Hello, (add the person’s name) It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

For example, Hello Sarah. It’s a pleasure to meet you.

  1. “Nice to meet you, (add the person’s name).

For example, Nice to meet you, Fred.

  1. “How do you do?” (add the person’s name). (A more formal greeting)

For example, how do you do Mr Brown?

When introducing yourself, you can say:

  1. “Hello, my name is [Add your name]. I’m the [add your job title] at [add you company name].”

For example, “Hello, my name is Charles, I’m the Team Leader at Global World.”

  1. “Good morning, I’m [Add your name] from [add you company name].”

For example, “Good morning, I’m Charles from Global World.

Remember to:

  • Smile and maintain eye contact.
  • Offer a firm handshake.
  • Use a clear and confident tone of voice.

Excellent! Now, let’s try responding to someone else’s introduction.

  1. “It’s a pleasure to meet you too, [add the other person’s name]. “

For example, it’s a pleasure to meet you too, Alan.

  1. “Likewise, [add the other person’s name].

For example, Someone greets you saying  “I’m Paul nice to meet you”.  You can reply, Likewise, Paul.

  1. “Nice to meet you too.”

For example, Someone greets you saying “I’m Paul nice to meet you”.  You can reply, “Nice to meet you too.”

By mastering these basic greetings and introductions, you’ll feel more confident and professional in any business setting.
