Handling Questions Effectively (Part 1)
Hi everyone, and welcome back to another daily English lesson! Today, we’ll focus on handling questions effectively, a crucial skill for any presentation or meeting.
Acknowledging and Understanding the Question:-
When someone asks you a question, it’s important to acknowledge them and ensure you understand their inquiry. Here are some helpful phrases:
- “Thank you for your question.”
- “That’s a great question.”
- “I’m glad you asked.”
- “Could you please repeat the question?”
- “To make sure I understand, are you asking…?”
Buying Time (If Needed):-
Sometimes, you might need a moment to formulate your answer. Here’s how to politely buy some time:
- “That’s an interesting question. Let me think about that for a moment.”
- “That’s a good point. I’d like to take a few seconds to consider my response.”
- “I’m happy to answer that. Let me just gather my thoughts.”
Providing a Clear Answer:-
“When answering, be concise and direct.
- Use clear and simple language.
- Avoid jargon or overly technical terms.
- Provide specific examples to illustrate your points.
Remember, even if you don’t know the answer to a question, you can always offer to follow up later.
Practice handling questions with a friend or family member. Role-play scenarios where they ask you questions, and you practice your responses.
